Descendants of Samuel Tanner

Generation No. 1

1.
SAMUEL1 TANNER was born 1744 in Duplin County, N.C., and died 1835 in
Franklin Co., Il..

Notes for
SAMUEL TANNER:
Have not found a wife or entries in the N.C. records.  With the birth date of the last to
have been born in that state it appears that they left there and his wife died around
1790.  At the same time of the mgs  in KY., of the children of
Samuel Tanner, there
was a
Frances Tanner who may be another child.  She married Jonas Wilkins Jan
1815. The facts of
Samuel Tanner and his birth in N.C. are handed to me by John
Aichele
and John Tanner.  They are my only source. Samuel Tanner's attempts to
prove his service in the Revolutionary War is in the register of Pensions.  He was
denied all three times.  according to J.W. Tanner,  Sam is probably buried in
Dykersburg area, unmarked cem -- Holmes or Neely, Indina Camp. died in home of
John [Jehu] Gibbs, Franklin Co.

Children of SAMUEL TANNER are:

that these are our Thomas and his brother, John.

    iii.        JOHN TANNER, b. 1787, Duplin County,N,.C.; d. 1855, Saline  Co., Il.,; m. (1)
ALBEY "ALLY " JERNIGAN, 31 Dec 1808, Muhlenberg Co., Ky.; b. 1791, Kentucky; d.
1855, Saline Co., IL.; m. (2) NISA WILKINS, 15 Mar 1849, Massac Co., IL..

Notes for JOHN TANNER:
Daughter Susanna's bp indicates Il., in 1815, while  brother's  bp shows TN 1826.
This according to Census of Saline Co., Some questions arise as to which son was firt
born to John Tanner and wife Ally Jernigan.  Some believe that it was son Thomas  but
in the 1850 Census where the father is 63 [married to his second wife, Nisa, who is
shown to be 53] the son Thomas is shown to be 18 years old.  Unless this is a nephew
living with this couple,  or, another Thomas was born to this couple, I assume that
Thomas could not be first born.  In that case his birth is around  1832, or later,
Somewhere that will become  evident.
John A. Tanner who was Private in the Mounted Volunteer company of Capt.
Diarman Sec Reg. Fst Brigade from June to August 1832,  enlisted from Pope Co., IL.,
as did Corporal Thomas W. Tanner, assumed to be his brother, Thomas. source Pope
Co. IL.,  forgotten records on Black Hawk War, Appendix A. pg 232;  Harrisburg, IL.,
library.

Notes for ALBEY "ALLY " JERNIGAN:
Ally's age was give 53 in 1850 C and her mg in Muhlenberg was dated 1808.  one of
the two is wrong.  probably she was born before 1797, therefore the 1850 C is wrong.
Name on mg license was spelled Johnekens;   three brothers married three sisters,
Thomas and Ailsey, John and Ally, James and Nancy..  near the same time and in the
same county of Muhlenberg, Ky.,  were the marriages of other  probable  relatives.
Wiley Tanner and Celia Johnston Feb 1816; James Tanner and Nancy Moorland, Oct
1815, John Tanner and Sally Ricker, Henry Field and Sally Watkins or Wilkins and
Joseph Field and Jane Duprey.   During this same time period of marraiges we find
many Garris, Wilkins and Tanners and expect that they traveled from the Carolinas
together, some from VA.

    iv.        NANCY TANNER, b. 1790, N.C. or VA.; d. 1873; m. WILLOUGHBY WILKINS,
Mar 1806, Muhlenberg Co., Ky.; b. 1780, N.C.; d. 1848, Massac Co., bur Wilkins Cem..
